The Season of Lent begins with “Ash Wednesday” that falls on March 5th this year. Lent is a time of reflection for both the individual and the church. And for the last few weeks, in preparation for Lent, I have been thinking about anger.
The is an ocean of anger raging beneath a vast majority of men. This anger comes from within and without. If we do not control both we will be consumed by our anger. For example, when someone says or does something to make us angry, we suffer. Then we say or do something to make the other suffer with the hope that we will suffer less. We think, “I want to punish you, I want to make you suffer because you made me suffer. And when I see you suffer a lot, I will feel better.”
I suggest both in preparation for Lent and during the Season of Lent, that we use these days and weeks for personal introspection. Look deeply into yourself. Ask God to show you what is working and what is not working on your spiritual journey. Program time to listen for God … God is speaking; we are sometimes too busy to listen.
The payback? Joy, peace, long suffering … sound familiar?
See you in church.
In Jesus,
Wayne
