Notes from the Pastor’s Pen – April 2014

For the past two decades I have struggled with how the Church approaches the Holy Trinity. Its hyper-focus on Jesus Christ, almost ignoring the Father and the Holy Spirit, has led to a misunderstanding of the Trinity.

The Power of the Trinity comes in the relationship between the Three. Rich Rohr, one of my patron saints, used the term ‘flow’ for how this relationship works. If we spend all of our time focused on Jesus, at least two things happen: we force Jesus into responsibilities and actions that rightfully belong in the ballparks of other members of the Trinity. And, when we do this we miss the beauty and power of the Trinity’s relationship in action.

As we wind toward the end of the season of Lent, I encourage you to ponder the Holy Trinity. Spend time alone and in silence as you do this. God will reward you with a deepening understanding of both the Trinity and yourself.

See you in Church,
Pastor Wayne
